On Wednesday, 19 February 2025, the Minister of Finance, Mr Enoch Godongwana, was initially scheduled to deliver the 2025 National Budget Speech to the National Assembly. This would have been the first budget speech following the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU). However, following discussions within the Cabinet, the presentation was postponed to allow for further deliberations within the GNU.
After Cabinet discussions concluded and an agreement was reached, the Minister of Finance and the National Treasury presented the revised budget to Parliament on 12 March 2025.
The budget aims to support economic growth while helping vulnerable groups. Given the current economic conditions, Budget 2025 takes a balanced approach, with measures designed to promote recovery and stability. It reflects the GNU’s ability to make meaningful compromises in a challenging environment.
