President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law the Employment Equity Amendment Bill of 2020.
The Equity Amendment Bill includes the following amendments:
Employers who employ less than 50 employees and who meet the required turnover threshold will no longer be classified as designated employers. Therefore, employers who employ less than 50 employees (irrespective of their turnover) will no longer be required to comply the Employment Equity Act.
The employer will have to comply with a set to rules in order to be issued with a compliance certificate to be granted any state contracts or retain any current state contracts.
Once the Amendment Act has been gazetted and published more information will follow.
