Zambia | NAPSA Contribution Ceiling Increase Effective January 2025

The National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) conducts an annual review of the contribution ceiling and pension payments, aligning these with changes in the National Average Earnings (NAE), as required by Section 35 of the National Pension Scheme Act No. 40 of 1996.

For the 2025 year, NAPSA has announced that the maximum monthly employee contribution amount has been revised to ZMW 1,708.20, with a corresponding maximum total contribution (employee + employer) of ZMW 3,416.40.

This adjustment reflects changes in the NAE figure, which has increased to ZMW 7,454.00 for 2025, up from ZMW 5,841.00 in 2024.

The contribution rate remains unchanged at 10% of an employee’s monthly gross earnings.

NAPSA Ceiling Increase

The contribution ceiling has increased from ZMW 29,816.00 in 2024 to ZMW 34,164.00, effective 1 January 2025.

As a result, the maximum monthly contributions are calculated as follows:

  • Employee Contribution: ZMW 34,164.00 x 5% = ZMW 1,708.20
  • Employer Contribution: ZMW 34,164.00 x 5% = ZMW 1,708.20
  • Total Contribution: ZMW 3,416.40
