South Africa | e@syFile Errors and Work-Arounds
While we do not offer support for SARS e@syFile, the Payroll Authors Group of South Africa (PAGSA) has shared some useful work-arounds for common issues encountered during the 2024/2025 Annual EMP501 Reconciliation period.
1. “Server cannot be reached” error (see example of error below)
This may occur when the system is still starting up. To resolve it:
- Close the application, wait a few minutes, and reopen.
- If the issue persists, start the service manually via Task Manager.

2. EMP501 Reconciliation does not balance
This is often due to tax certificates not importing correctly. To address it:
- Compare the totals on the EMP501 to your payroll certificate totals (PAYE, SDL, UIF).
- If the totals don’t match, then all the certificates were not imported - delete the imported file and re-import the tax certificates file. You may need to delete and re-import the file more than once to get accurate totals.
These work-arounds may help reduce filing delays while SARS addresses the known system issues.
