Mauritania | SMIG increase

Décret n°2026-064, issued by the Prime Minister and published on the Ministry of Public Service and Labour website, sets new minimum wage (SMIG) rates for Mauritanian workers, effective 1 April 2026.

What is changing
New general SMIG rate
  1. The hourly minimum wage rate for general workers under the 40-hour weekly working-time regime is raised to 28.846 MRU/hour.
  2. This is equivalent to approximately 5,000 MRU/month.
New SMIG rate for agricultural and assimilated workers
  1. The hourly SMIG for agricultural and assimilated workers covered by the 1965 order referenced is set at 25 MRU/hour.
  2. The decree sets an hourly rate for this category and does not provide a single monthly equivalent.
CNSS minimum contributable base
  1. Under the CNSS framework, contributions apply to a monthly wage capped at 15,000 MRU and not lower than the SMIG.
  2. The CNSS contribution ceiling remains at 15,000 MRU/month.
  3. For general 40-hour workers, the minimum monthly contributable base should reflect the new SMIG equivalent of approximately 5,000 MRU/month from 1 April 2026.
  4. For agricultural and assimilated workers, the applicable SMIG floor should be calculated using the relevant working-time basis for that employment category, then capped at 15,000 MRU.
  5. The CNSS monthly base is therefore calculated by applying the SMIG floor and the 15,000 MRU cap.
