How do I delete an organisation unit that is linked to employees?

How do I delete an organisation unit that is linked to employees?

Organisation units (i.e. departments and cost centres) cannot be deleted once it is linked to an employee. 

      

However, it is possible to make a department or cost centre inactive, preventing any future employee from being linked to it.

      Navigate  > Configuration > Human Resources > Organisation Structure > Organisation Hierarchy Units > Additional
